For a long time, I didn’t go to church. I didn’t believe in God.
People around me would say, “I know God exists because my prayers get answered. This made me crazy. Then, when folks didn’t get what they prayed for, they would say, “But God did answer me — He just said ‘No’.”
This made me crazier.
Today in Sunday School, several couples in our couples’ class said their relationship confirmed for them the existence of God. “I know that the only reason we are together is divine intervention,” one man said. He and his partner have been together almost 30 years.
For a long time, my mother has been praying that my partner, Clyde and I would break up — because she believes that is what God would want.
She keeps asking. She’s prayed that prayer for seven years. Clyde and I are still together.
I like this God who sometimes says, ‘No.’
