As you’ll recall, Republicans just can’t seem to lose elections when votes are collected via electronic voting machines.
In the last presidential election, despite the fact that certain of these machines submitted negative votes for Gore, very few people asked any questions.
In Atlanta’s governor’s race — another race too close to call — electronic votes, at the last minute, shifted suddenly in favor of the Republican candidate. Again, very few people thought to ask questions.
Now, on the heels of an announcement that either Kerry or Edwards could beat George Bush comes a quiet little news story: suddenly, the “Election Assistance Committee” has decided to prioritize $2.3 billion in federal funds … to make sure that new voting machines can be in place in time for the next presidential election.
It’s time to start asking questions.
