Defending Marriage (Again)

Defending Marriage (Again)

I’m waiting for someone — anyone! — to explain to me in simple terms how granting gay people the right to get married threatens the institution of marriage.

Here’s what I’ve been told so far:

1) Granting gays the right to marry will encourage homosexuality. Does anyone really believe that heterosexuals will, upon the legalization of gay marriage, slap their foreheads and say, “Oh, wow! Since gay marriage is legal, I’m gonna go gay!”? Forbidding gay marriage didn’t wipe out homosexuals in America; granting marriage rights to gay people won’t magically summon millions of new gays into existance.

2) Granting gays the right to marry will destroy the primary building block of American society: the nuclear family. Actually, the primary building block of American society is the free individual, not the family.
