Craigslist

Craigslist

Jackson, MS, is finally included on craigslist (“Craig’s List”).

Craigslist, for those of you who’ve been living under a rock these past few years, is the mother of all online classified ad systems. All the revenue that keeps the company going comes from paid job ads; as a result, the vast majority of us can use the system for free.

It works like this: you post an ad. The system gives you an anonymous mailbox through which you can check responses. And the system is self-policing: users can flag ads and posts they think are great, and flag spam and annoyance ads as “spam” or “prohibited” ads. (It takes several votes to flag an ad, so one person can’t wreak havoc on the system.)

To work well, craigslist needs lots and lots of readers and participants. Stop by — if nothing else, you can amuse yourself by reading the adult personals (you’ll be surprised what people are looking for, right here in your own hometown).
