I can’t decide what surprised me the most about Lars and the Real Girl:
a) that it was, in fact, a comic love story about a young man’s tender relationship with a life-sized silicone sex doll named Bianca, or
b) that this funny, wise, warm, subtle movie is one of my favorite films of all time.
Ebert’s right when he notes actor Ryan Gosling’s performance “says things that cannot be said,” and I’m right when I say that you will leave this movie awed, humbled, amazed, and strangely happy. Just go see it, okay?
