This article suggests Southern racists are using social code to cloak bigoted statements by referring to African Americans as Canadians. (Examples: “You don’t want to go to that store. The entire staff is made up of nothing but Canadians.” or “Do you think America’s really ready for a Canadian president?”)
I’ve lived in the South my entire life, and I’ve never encountered this. How about it, readers from the South? Have you?

Never heard that before….
This is actually not really a Southern phenomenon. This has been around for years and in many parts of the country. I first heard this on the Ron & Fez show in regards to waiters and waitresses not wanting to wait on “Canadians” since they (allegedly) don’t tip well.
