I’m loving me some BibleXpress, a new Bible app for the iPhone 2.0.
With BibleXPress, I can:
– jump to any point in the Old or New Testament in seconds using familiar iPhone gestures
– perform fast, flexible keyword searches
– carry several Bibles (the ASV and NRSV currently, with the ESV, NASB, LBLA, and more coming soon) in my pocket at once
– enter notes, annotations, and lists keyed to specific verses.
Other iPhone Bibles with small prices (usually three bucks or so) have big limitations. The biggest drawback: the text of the Bible lives in “the cloud” — another computer that the iPhone accesses over its Internet connection.
When searching for or looking up a verse in these inexpensive Bibles, your request has to go out over your wireless connection and be processed on the remote computer. Your reply has to come back down the pipe to your iPhone. Over a slow connection, this can take a loooong time … and if you find yourself without an Internet connection (or, say, on a plane), your loose all access to the text.
Not so with BibleXpress! The full text of every translation lives right on the iPhone, so I can flip to or find a verse faster than you can say, “Romans Chapter 6, Verse 1.”
BibleXpress is $29.95 and worth every penny. Hands-down, it’s the best Bible software for the iPhone. If and when Ben, the developer, gets the rights to distribute The Message — my favorite version for reading and study — I’ll be in BIble Paradise.
