Umbrellas for Jesus?

Umbrellas for Jesus?

This poster — circa 1981 — is part of a series designed to teach Japanese subway riders proper etiquette. All those umbrellas you’ve been leaving on the subway? They make Jesus really depressed.

Here in the States, a poster like this one would likely cause an uproar — but I often see Buddha images used as everything from garden ornaments to drawer pulls. Turnabout, I suppose, is fair play.
