Fast, Efficient Podcasting … with an iPhone!

Over on Jase on Cards, Jason just published a podcast: a sample card reading using a Le Normand deck. Here’s the link:

The entire piece sounds great. It helps that Jason has a warm, friendly voice … and that he’s comfortable speaking his thoughts aloud. But I absolutely freaked out when I read that Jason pulled this off without any fancy equipment, special microphones, or expensive post-production software. Instead: he just spoke his thoughts into his iPhone using the Voice Recorder app.

He fed that recording to Garage Band, turned it into an .MP3 using the default podcast settings, and uploaded the sucker.

This is a great lesson for folks like me. When I first thought about getting into podcasting, I frittered away several hours picking out just the right Snoball microphone … trying out every Mac-based audio processing software package out there … fiddling with filters and presets …

… and never produced a podcast.

Meantime: with nothing but an iPhone, Jason’s on the air in fifteen minutes flat.

Thanks for the podcast, Jason … but thanks, too, for a reminder that sometimes, getting it done is more important than HOW we get it done. What an inspiration!
