Firefly

As quirky as it is colorful, the Firefly Grille offers inventive, casual comfort food in a vibrant dining room lit by Japanese paper lanterns and Christmas lights. If a crew of hobbits watched Mad Max, Blair Witch, and HGTV’s Color Splash, this is the decor they might come up with.

While many complain that Firefly is hard to get into (it’s very popular in the evenings), we had no wait at all for seats on Saturday at noon. In two shakes of a lamb’s tail, I was tucked into a delicious, perfectly-cooked burger with a hearty whole-wheat bun and good fries. Clyde went for the veggie wrap, which was packed with vegan goodness.

The star of the show, though, was the dessert: a fudge caramel cake: a lower layer of chocolate fudge, an upper layer of moist yellow cake, all frosted over with caramel icing.

If you’re line-averse, go early on Saturday and snag a seat in seconds … but this is one of the few restaurants I’ve been to lately that would be worth a wait. Strongly recommended.
