Talarico’s Pizza (West Seattle)

I’ve rhapsodized before about Talarico’s Pizza in West Seattle … and guess what? Here I go again.

Yes, the pie here is just that good. In fact, with the addition of their new “smoky pepperoni” topping — think pepperoni, but smoother and sweeter — this may have just become my favorite pizza in the USA. I stuck to the basics, ordering a slice of smoky pepperoni and a pint of pale ale. But don’t let my “one slice” reference fool you. That’s one slice (14 inches long) from one of Talarico’s signature 28-inch pies. Folded in half, it makes a perfect little wedge of heaven: hot cheese, sweet sauce, and a stout crust thin enough to crispy but thick enough to shovel up the toppings without going soggy.

If you’re serious about pizza — that’s real pizza, mind you … manly pizza, straightforward pizza, the kind of pizza Daniel Craig would eat — you’re just plain silly if you miss the chance to down this stuff. Yes, it’s in West Seattle. Cross the bridge and get over it. Great atmosphere, friendly locals, and an ornate bar that earns its place in the heart of the joint. Highly recommended.
