I’m a little obsessed with FXGuide.com, a website devoted to special effects in film.
My favorite features are the occasional “You won’t believe these scenes have special effects in them” posts. We expect science fiction and horror features to be laced with digital wizardry. Increasingly, though, scenes that look as straightforward and realistic as can be are subtly enhanced (or even created from scratch) by digital effects artists.
Today’s before and after reel included eye-popping before and after videos revealing how an actor’s face can be plastered over a wave-surfing stunt double, how the second floor of Bill Murray’s mansion in Hyde Park was rendered in after the fact, and how a heart-pounding run through busy traffic was achieved on a deserted stretch of studio road.
