While staying at the gracious MyHomeInLisbon Bed and Breakfast, I found these charming old French cards on the living room table. Each of the 25 cards in the deck depicts a sliver of a panoramic view of a path by a river. The image on each card is drawn in such a way that features on the left- and right-hand edges seamlessly connect with the edges of the image on any other card. The result: each time you shuffle the deck and place the cards in a line, you get a lovely randomly generated panorama.
Maria, our host, didn’t know much about the cards or their origin, having acquired them at the nearby Thieves’ Market for ten euro. I’d love to know more about the deck — or have one myself. Better yet, I’d like to see a Tarot deck drawn this way, with each card in the linear spread seamlessly joining together to create a story the reader travels through.
