zpizza promises “you’ll never experience a bland, boring, blasé pizza.”
The premise — fresh produce, gourmet toppings, fire-baked crusts — sounds good enough, but the proof of any pizza joint, ultimately, is in the pie. And while friends dutifully polished off their pizzas — Clyde ordered the California, packed with lots of raw-ish veggies — none of the pies (including my own simple pepperoni) evoked yummy noises or expressions of delight.
Zpizza crusts are crisp, but a bit too chewy, and the crew at zpizza is too stingy, in my opinion, with cheese and toppings. The result? Take-it-or-leave-it pizza — healthier than what you’d get at a mall, perhaps, but not much more distinctive. Despite the advertising slogan, boring and blasé really do, pretty much, sum things up.
Will average pizzas lure enough Midtown diners to pay for a high-rent location just off Peachtree Street? This remains to be seen. (Update: not surprisingly, the Midtown location has closed. If you’re after a zpizza, you’ll need to drive to Alpharetta now.)
Meantime, I’ll continue to scour Atlanta in my quest for the perfect pizza pie.
You will not have to wait to much longer for great pizza in Atlanta. Pizza Fusion is coming to Atlanta located at 2233 Peachtree Rd…We serve organic pizza. Check us out at http://www.pizzafusion.com...

Beware, though: my personal pie-o-meter has been well-primed. Until I moved to Atlanta, I had daily access to the world’s fifth-best pizza, ya know. (Ah, Pizza Shack … how I miss ya!)
