Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays

RedornamentI got off work early today, giving us time to do Things That Matter: scarfing down a sushi lunch at Ru San’s … picking up the last Christmas present on our list … dropping off Papa John’s gift cards for our building’s concierge staff … shipping off the DVDs internet shoppers bought from Clyde today … sampling the take-n-bake pizzas while walking the aisles at Sam’s … wrapping the gifts we’ll give my family tomorrow … stopping for spicy rice and snap dragon chicken at Royal Orchid Thai … taking in a movie at Midtown Arts Cinema.

Clyde and I have exchanged presents — the Tivo and pedometer and USA TODAY subscription I got for him, the books and EyeFi card and Apple wireless keyboard he got for me. Now, he’s in the living room, watching One Life to Live and playing Peggle; I’m in the office, typing merrily away. Chelsea is dozing at the foot of our Christmas tree; Tiger and Lilly are curled up on the far edge of the chaise lounge.

I’m extraordinarily, immeasurably happy.

I mean, here I am … living in the city I’ve always wanted to live in … doing work that I enjoy doing … and sharing it all with a guy I love even more today than when I met him fifteen years ago. Instead of longing for the past or dreaming of the future, I’m truly and fully present in the now — and I love the now. I love it.

My Christmas wish for you, dear reader, is simply this: if you have not found your happiness, I hope you find it. When you’ve found it, I hope you cherish it. And when you are immersed in your happiness, when it is wrapped around you like a good coat on a cool night, I hope you will feel as warm and blessed and grateful as I do.

Happy holidays, everyone.
