All Sunshine

All Sunshine

I like wearing black — black’s the new black, you know.

Black is not, however, a great fashion choice for the Mississippi summer. Today, while walking Chelsea at 8:15 a.m., I rounded a corner and came face to face with the rising sun. You know how it feels when you open an oven door and the heat whooshes up at your face? You know how that makes your skin draw up? Imagine that happening all over, and you’ll have a good idea of how I felt the moment we hit the sunshine.

My black shirt just made things worse. As we ran for shade, I could feel my black shirt soaking up solar energy. I felt the way batteries must feel in the charger: warm, getting warmer, expanding, glowing…

Back inside, my black shirt, soaked in sweat, looks blacker than ever. I’ve been up and at ’em for two hours today … and I’m already on shirt number two.
