Ah, how she’s teased me, these past few weeks!
For the last twenty-one days, every visit to Sam’s Club has included a reverent pause in the electronics department. There, the HP Pavillion ZD8110US reclined upon one of the highest shelves, showing off its sleek, dark body, its crystal-clear widescreen, its integrated high-speed dual-layer DVD writer, and its fat, jiggly 100 GB hard disk.
She was more than just pretty and well-endowed … she was smart, too, with 1 GB of memory (upgradeable to two) and a graphics board so fast the screaming visuals could snap your neck in an instant.
Yesterday, she disappeared.
“They’ll have something better,” Clyde said. “Besides, your current laptop is just fine.”
He’s right. Deep inside, I know he’s right.
Still … I confess the empty shelf at Sam’s brings me nigh to weeping, and that, last night, I dreamed she was in my lap, warm and purring and happy to be home.
