Thanks to my Vindigo subscription, my handheld computer was able to tell me that, in addition to the Burger Joint, one of New York’s hottest breakfast tickets — Norma’s — was also located in our hotel. Clyde’s favorite meal being breakfast, I was determined for us to get a table.
The menu is deceptive, as “Chocolate Decadence French Toast” cannot come close to describing what arrived on my plate. This was, in fact, French toast, but this was the sort of French toast that Jesus would make for His breakfast guests: thick, warm slabs cocoa-infused bread topped with fresh fruit, pistachio nuts, and melted chocolate.
The four-tiered serving was more than even I could put away. Clyde seemed equally pleased with — and overwhelmed by — his blueberry pancakes, and our friends barely paused for breath between bites of their eggs benedict (with pancakes and asparagus).
You won’t want this sort of breakfast every day (fresh-squeezed orange juice at seven bucks a glass would eventually pinch your wallet), but every day you start with this breakfast is bound to be one to remember. Guests of Le Parker Meridien Hotel have the best odds of being seated quickly (you can call from your room to get a seating time), but early risers take note: we walked up at 7:30 a.m. and were seated right away.
