Bang, Bang, Bang On the Door, Baby

Bang, Bang, Bang On the Door, Baby

A week ago,  my mother awoke at 2:45 a.m. to  the sound of her doorbell ringing repeatedly.  Josiah the WonderDog went bezerk, growling, barking, and snapping. Mother, who lives alone, very wisely stayed in her bedroom and dialed 911.

When the commotion went on for more than fifteen minutes, Mother peeked out the front bathroom window. In the rural gloom, she could only see what she describes as a "low, black sports car" and a man "in a red shirt."

Eventually, he started clawing at the doorknob — which, fortunately, stays locked at all times.

He left just minutes before the police arrived.

Understandably, Mother was pretty rattled by all this …

… and was even more rattled when the whole thing happened again exactly one week later.

This time, Josiah the WonderDog heard the man’s car arrive before he ever started ringing doorbells and rattling doorknobs. Mother awoke to Josiah growling deep in his throat; the dog even positioned himself between Mother and the door, as though forbidding her to leave the room.

Again, the guy left just seconds before the police arrived. Cops speculate it’s drug-related (that really helped Mom’s feelings!). Their final suggestion? "If he comes back, just keep doing what you’re doing."

There has to be a better answer.
