Seeing Clearly

Seeing Clearly

During our stay in Paris, we saw the following ad on French television. Imagine the uproar if this little gem were to air in the States:

A stiff, befuddled white male stands at the Presidential press podium, looking embarassed. He holds up a plastic baggie of white powder.

“It appears that the anthrax we thought we saw … was powdered sugar.”

The reporters gasp and scribble on their pads. Cameras flash.

“And the nuclear weapons we thought we saw…”

Several people behind the gentleman stoop to the floor. They stand again, holding a number of gadgets with dangling electrical cords.

“… were coffee pots.”

The press gasps again.

“That’s correct,” the speaker tells them, apologetically. “Just … coffee pots.”

Cut to an announcer, who urges viewers: “City Vision Centers. Let us help you see more clearly.”

George Bush brags that he doesn’t read the papers.

I hope he watches French t.v.
