Ever have the feeling you’re being watched?
You are — in ways you don’t expect, as this satellite photo from the US Geological Survey website proves:
That’s my house, as seen from an earth-orbiting satellite. Our pool — the blue patch in the back yard — is clearly visible, as is the fence that divides our yard from the lot we sold a while back.
This same mapping system makes it possible to view, in detail, the roadways, waterways, and even the utility infrastructure of any urban area in the United States.
I can see how that’s handy. On the other hand, does making this information available to anyone and everyone with an Internet connection make good sense these days?
