After five weeks on a 1500 calorie-per-day diet and four weeks on the Power 90 weights and aerobics program, here’s my progress:
Days on 1500 Calorie Diet: 37
Days on Power 90: 29
Weight / Pounds Lost: 213.0 / 9.0
Body Fat / Percentage Down: 26 / 4
Mental Clarity: Maximum
Energy: Maximum
My progress would look better (last week, I went as low as 212 pounds, with a body fat of 25), but our weekend trip to Tallassee included a number of treats: from Rotel dip to brownies to French Silk Pie. (Something was in the air; friends of ours on the same program sucked down greasy chips, cheese sauce, and candy bar cake over the holiday.) Back at home, we’re back into the program … so I expect to resume my usual downward pace of 2 pounds or so per week again.
The challenge will come next week, as we discover whether we have the stamina to continue our program while vacationing in Australia. I’m pretty sure I can eat right … but the trick will be maintaining the energy to do morning aerobics while jet lagged.
We take our Day 30 photos today. Will I have the courage to post them here? Hmmmm….
Meanwhile, here’s an interesting review of the Power 90 program. It mentions the one thing I already suspect: that you can’t really look like a well-oiled body builder in ninety days.
Ultimately? I think the reviewers missed the point of the program: motivating zero-exercise, out-of-control types like me to commit to an exercise and diet regimen for ninety days. Three months later — even if I don’t look like a Greek god — I’m better off … and have an exercise habit built into my daily routine, to boot.
