When lunch time came on our drive up to Mt. Rainier, we were at a bit of a loss. Due to AT&T’s limited coverage in the mountains, all our faithful local recommendations apps (Urban Spoon, Trip Advisor) were off-line. What to do?
Here’s what: find a joint the old fashioned way … by counting cars in the lot. And by this measure, the Copper Creek Inn was unparalleled by any eatery we passed on the highway. Cars were parked in the lot, in the woods, on the roadside …
… And with good reason. My “Cheeseburger in Paradise” was served up on a soft, fresh, homemade bun, cooked to perfection, and layered with crisp, fresh tomato and onion slices. (This is the kind of $10.00 burger that proves how crazy people are for spending $30.00 on gourmet burgers in Atlanta!) The fries were also perfect — no fussy batter or seasoning, just good potatoes fried to a crispy golden finish.
Clyde’s chowder included generous portions of seafood, was creamy and silky, and served alongside a personal loaf of fresh-baked bread.
The big hit was the made-on-the-premises blackberry pie a la mode — not too sweet, piping hot, just the right size for splitting.
